Krysta Flores Azurdia is a rising junior at Saint Louis University, where she is pursuing a double major in Neuroscience and Psychology with minors in Biology and Philosophy on the pre-medical track. My name is Hillary Viveros and I am a graduating senior at Visitation academy. I began dancing folklorico in kindergarten. After taking a break during middle school, I realized how much I missed dancing and returned my freshman year of high school. Alexandra Maria Tsygankov is a rising sophomore John B. At WashU, Alexandra serves as the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Chair for Park Mudd and will step into the same role for the Congress of the South 40 Leadership Team in Fall 2026. As a St. Louis Morris Fellow with the Gephardt Institute for Civic and Community Engagement, she works to conduct community outreach to expand access to health resources in underserved neighborhoods, beginning in the summer of 2026. My name is Carli Salazar, and I am an incoming second-year student studying architecture and minoring in French at the University of Kansas. I am the daughter of Guatemalan and Mexican immigrants, and a first-generation college student. As a child, I loved building things from recycled materials. My mom would bring home giant cardboard boxes, and I would spend hours making things out of whatever sparked my interest. Harnessing that same passion to create, I aspire to become an architect who designs modern buildings that not only minimize environmental impact but also honor traditional architectural styles. I also want to dedicate my career to prioritizing, restoring, and renovating historic buildings in an effort to reduce the effects that architecture and construction have on climate change. Sustainability is important to me as I want to be conscious of what materials and chemicals are released into the atmosphere when constructing and designing new builds. Integrating my interest in French studies. I aim to explore global architectural influences, enriching my designs with diverse cultural perspectives. I want to be a global learner who strives to construct buildings that help the environment. My name is Ana Rojas. I have cochlear implants, and I am deaf. I was born in Ecuador. Early in my childhood, when my family was living in another country, my hearing loss was discovered. In an effort to give me better access to deaf education and services, my parents chose to move to the United States after exploring support through programs in California. At the age of four, I got a cochlear implant in Bogotá. Colombia.

I attended St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf for eight years, where I developed some skills in language, academics, and communication. I also fell in love with art during that time. One of my favorite instructors inspired me to be creative and gave me confidence when it came to creating artwork and sketching.

I had struggled with ASL at first after moving to a mainstream school, but with support from the ASL club and my SSD instructor, I was able to become better at communicating. In high school, I continued studying art through drawing, design, and art club, which strengthened my interest in visual expression.

Later, I studied graphic design at RIT in Rochester, New York, and graduated with an associate’s degree in 2023. Then I continued my studies at UMSL, where I am now majoring in art education.
My goal is to become an art teacher. I am passionate about helping students express themselves through creativity and building inclusive learning spaces where all students can succeed.

Annabella Marie Calix attended Lindbergh High School and South Technical High School. While at South Tech, she participated in SkillsUSA, competing in cosmetology and job interview events against students from other schools. Although she is still exploring her long-term career path, she plans to work as a hairstylist in a salon while attending college.

Alexander Morales-Tiburcio is pursuing a major in architecture with a minor in business. He is passionate about designing spaces that positively impact communities and improve people's lives. Especially in times like these where one can be prejudiced for who they are, one can’t forget their identity: the circumstances that built you up and the people that provided your footing.

Sophia Zambrano is a recipient of the Elinor Irvin Scholarship. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Parkway West High School and will be attending Truman State University to study Music Education. She is also pursuing a minor in Jazz Studies and Music History. In her time at West she received gold medals at State Solo and Ensemble in French Horn Performance and received the Directors Award from her music department. She was also involved in the Spanish Club and earned the Missouri State Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish. As a young girl, she was fascinated by the Peruvian instruments in her Grandma’s house which led to her passion for music, as well as helping her to learn more about her Peruvian culture. By creating welcoming and encouraging band programs for all types of learners, Sophia aspires to give students the same sense of belonging, confidence and purpose that music has given her.

As a first generation Hispanic student, I hope to use my experiences, bilingual background, and passion for healthcare to give back to communities like the one that shaped me. Through opportunities like the CADE Dental Assistant Apprenticeship, Give Kids A Smile, and Smiles of Hope, I have seen how important dental care can be for a person’s confidence and well being. This scholarship motivates me to keep working hard toward my goals and to one day help make dental care more accessible for families in need.

I am a sophomore at Saint Louis University pursuing a degree in Political Science and International Business, with plans to attend law school. My interest in government and politics has led me to engage in local civic discussions, including meeting with the Mayor of St. Charles to share ideas about community redesign and city branding. I am also passionate about creative entrepreneurship and have developed and designed multiple startup business ideas. My background as the child of an immigrant mother has shaped my perspective and strengthened my appreciation for resilience, opportunity, and public service. This upbringing has influenced my academic and career goals, particularly my interest in using law and policy to create positive change. My hobbies include spending time with friends, music production, and playing tennis.

Arely Onate Trejo is an incoming junior at Saint Louis University on the pre-med track studying Medical Sciences. Off campus she has volunteered as a tutor teaching English to Spanish speaking students, translator for free health screenings, and as a friend at hospice facilities. She has also held a job as a medical assistant and got experience talking with patients, taking vitals, and dealing with the administrative side of healthcare. On campus she serves as the president of STEM wellness, is involved in research, and writes for OneWorld magazine. She plans on applying to medical school in 2027 with hopes of becoming a physician.

I was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico and moved to Missouri in 2016. I’m currently going into my second year at McKendree University while studying Biology on a pre med track. I want to become an Emergency Medicine physician and attend med school at WashU. At McK I’m part of the tennis team and MedLife club. My freshman year I was on the Presidents list both semesters and will be starting research in the Fall.

I am a first-generation Hispanic college student pursuing a dual Bachelor of Science in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Missouri. My parents’ sacrifices and determination to build a better future in the U.S inspired me to pursue higher education and embrace resilience, hard work, and independence. My career goal is to become an engineer who develops innovative solutions while increasing representation of women and Hispanics in STEM. Outside the classroom, I have served as President and Treasurer of Develop[Her], supporting students through professional development and networking opportunities. I also volunteer at the Central Missouri Humane Society and have spent years assisting Hispanic families by translating at hospitals and government facilities, helping with job or housing applications, and navigating important documents. I hope to use my education to mentor future generations and create opportunities for underserved communities.

Isabelle Bender was born in St. Charles, Missouri, to Elisa and Adam Bender. She graduated from Fort Zumwalt West High School, where she was actively involved in the marching band and theater program, serving in leadership roles in both. As a member of the A+ Program, she also spent her free periods tutoring fellow students in math. During her junior year, her color guard team won the Missouri State Championship.

Isabelle is currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. During her first year, she founded a movie club in her residence hall that brings together a group of students each Saturday to watch films. She is also a member of the University of Minnesota Marching Band's color guard and traveled to Phoenix, Arizona, to perform at the university's bowl game. She plans to remain a member of the color guard throughout her college career.

Outside of school, Isabelle has been a dedicated volunteer with Hispanic Festival, Inc. Since childhood, she has volunteered at the organization's events and continues to support its annual June festival each summer. She is grateful for the encouragement and support she has received from her family, mentors, and community, which have helped her achieve her goals.

Dean Benjamin Kases is a rising freshman at Saint Louis University, where he will study Political Science, International Studies, and Spanish with plans to attend law school. A proud member of the Bolivian community, Dean graduated magna cum laude and was recognized as a National Merit Finalist, an honor earned by approximately one percent of high school seniors. He is also a Missouri Bright Flight Scholar, earned the Missouri Seal of Biliteracy, and received the College Board AP Scholar with Distinction award.

During his four years at Parkway South High School, Dean was actively involved in the theater program, performing in productions that included Julius Caesar and Pirate Bill Slankly. His academic interests have taken him abroad, where he studied ancient history and sustainable agriculture at the American Farm School's Perrotis College in Greece and completed an internship with the Ministry of Foreign Relations in La Paz, Bolivia.

Dean is committed to public service and civic engagement. He has worked with St. Louis Changemakers on initiatives to improve the St. Louis region and has served on the Board of Directors of the Bolivian Society of St. Louis, helping organize fundraising efforts that support community initiatives, including an orphanage in La Paz. He looks forward to continuing his commitment to leadership, service, and advocacy throughout his college career.
