As a child, reading The Magic Treehouse series provided her an escape into a world of fantasy and possibility. This series ignited her love for reading and allowed it to flourish. Since elementary school, Nehtia has developed skills in empathy and the ability to view problems from perspectives beyond her own, which guides her passion for studying human behavior.

When choosing a degree, Nehtia reflected on the idea that “if you choose something you love, you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” She believed that working in a field she loved would lead to her best work. She discovered that her greatest passion is people—their stories, values, upbringing, and thoughts expand her perspective. Her strength lies in supporting others, and she aims to apply her education to help people by creating a space for self-discovery. Nehtia aspires to be a beacon of “Ah Ha!” moments that signify logical turnarounds and solutions to problems.

Her love for reading and empathy will help her balance logic and emotion. In a world where logic often overshadows emotion, empathy provides necessary room for feelings. Reading allows one to experience many lives while remaining grounded in reality. Despite the challenges of organizing during COVID and online classes, she persisted, believing there were students interested in such a community. By her second year at SCC, the club was revitalized, boasting more than 20 active members and an executive board. Rocio remains involved, returning to assist with leadership training and ensure the club's continued activity.

At UMSL, Rocio will continue to lead as the social media chair for the Tau Sigma Transfer Student Honor Society, participate in the marketing club, and apply the experience and knowledge gained from her time with MSA.
